It’s well known that CII is committed to the development of the State and its entrepreneurs by dissemination of information on innovations and technology for the SME's. The increased demand for Indian automobiles has resulted in a large number of multi-national auto companies, especially from Japan, U.S.A., and Europe, entering the Indian market and working in collaboration with the Indian firms. Also, the institutionalization of automobile finance has further paved the way to sustain a long-term high growth for the industry.

The Indian auto component industry is well positioned to capitalise on the growth in outsourcing to low cost countries. Exports would lead the growth in the component industry, which is expected to be around USD 33- 40 bn by 2015. TNTDPC together with UNIDO is handholding SME’s by its activities like conferences, cluster development programs, missions, workshops. Some of the recent activities in the automotive sector are

  • Mission to SUBCON China 2008, Chongqing, China (UNIDO-ICAMT)

Consolidated project for SME Development (UNIDO-ITP)

TNTDPC & UNIDO are working closely in profiling companies in the auto-component sector. The profiling helps to facilitate a better B2B matchmaking by foreign companies who has great interest in Indian SMEs. In first stage UNIDO had profiled about 150 automotive companies in Ambattur Industrial Estate, as the second stage 60 plus companies in Chennai are profiled and in the pipeline more companies are awaiting for profiling process. The project is a unique opportunity to Indian companies to be in the Global platform

The project constitutes

  • Facilitate B2B matchmaking by foreign companies who has great interest in Indian companies
  • Enhancing export competitiveness in Indian Industry
  • Promotion of Indian company in the global platform
  • Buyers to reach Indian company in an effective manner

The project is a constituent part of UNIDO Supply Chain Development which devotes itself to helping the developing countries entering the global subcontracting and supply chain. Its mission is to facilitate production linkage among small, medium or large-sized manufacturing enterprises to connect with the world market and productive value chain.

Mission to SUBCON China 2008, Chongqing, China (UNIDO-ICAMT)

The UNIDO-ICAMT-CII team organized a mission to the Subcontracting and outsourcing fair (SUBCON China 2008) during November 2008. The mission was initiated from the invitation of the Chongqing - SPX for the company mission from Indian participation to serve as beneficiaries.

The objective of the mission was aimed on establish technology tie-ups and cooperation with Chinese companies. In addition to the visit of the delegation to the fair, visits to the manufacturing facility in China was made to provide the overview of the developmental activities in the region. The main reason for the attendance was the opportunity to for Indian companies to identify potential suppliers or partners for collaboration or technology in the automotive industry and to bring together the most significant contacts and service providers of the subcontracting industry

TNTDPC & UNIDO Future activities

TNTDPC and UNIDO will also involve expansion of the sub-contracting and partnership exchange and promotion of direct foreign investment and industrial cooperation agreements, fostering investment and partnerships of selected target market countries towards the Indian small and medium companies of the auto component sectors, starting from those of the selected clusters and selected companies from similar clusters in India.

As a technology development center, TNTDPC designs and implements programmes to support the industrial development efforts of its clients. It also offers managing services and specialized support for business promotions.

The most innovative project in the TNTDPC for the auto sector is "Consolidated Project for Industry Development in India", financed by the Italian Government was to enhance co ordination with the Indian companies in automotive component Sector and to enhance the export competitiveness.

TNTDPC following main objectives:

  • To promote SME’s in the auto sector
  • Handhold the SMEs for partnerships collaborations, joint ventures and technology alliances
