About the Conference
Technological excellence is looked upon as one of the main parameters in deciding a country’s growth. Accelerated growth can happen only through revolutionary technologies impacting large sections of the human society. In the present era, agro food processing technology has the capability of bringing in such revolutionary economic growth. The innovations in food technology has implications in sectors like environment and health, which are important at a time when India is in a transition from being developing nation into a developed nation.
Developments in food processing technology and engineering are vital in making a wide variety of safe, palatable and nutritious foods available year around. Food safety, traceability, pollution, waste management etc, are emerging as issues. There is a need for greater understanding of food processing operations for ensuring high quality and safety of foods as well as better utilization of existing technologies and adoption of new innovative technologies. Therefore, the adoption of novel food processing and preservation technologies will continue to grow in the future to produce value-added and tasty foods available in a variety of forms.
Food technology has a major role to play in India with majority of the population dependent on agriculture. It is therefore essential to create awareness, help industry to adopt new technologies and enable their existing products and processes using modern techniques. Value added products with a marginal price increase can be available in the markets, which can seriously impact the business in Indian industry.
While assuming many new challenges in food processing sector, TNTDPC of CII is strongly committed to the sharing of knowledge and expertise. With a view to disseminate information on the new business opportunities and also to support the prospective entrepreneurs in making the right linkages with the technology providers, Tamil Nadu Technology Development & Promotion Center (TNTDPC) of CII and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) - Michigan State University (MSU) - Indian Horticulture Development Alliance (IHDA) are jointly organizing the FoodCon 2010: Conference on Latest Trends in Food Processing and Preservation Technologies on 9th of July 2010 at the Hotel Taj Coromandel, Chennai. |
